Tinder SMS Verification 101: Here’s everything you need to know!

Using Tinder without receiving the SMS verification code is impossible. This is a process no one can escape.

The process is mandatory, but the questions remain.

What exactly is a Tinder SMS verification, what’s the meaning of it, and why is it required?

Let’s answer these and more questions together!

A brief explanation of Tinder SMS verification and why it is mandatory!

Tinder SMS Explanation

Tinder SMS verification process is a measure that requires you to confirm your phone number to ensure user safety and privacy:

  • Authenticate user’s identity (preventing people from using your account).
  • Confirm that the user has one account.
  • Verify that the account is not fake.
  • Prevent persons underage from entering the app.
  • Provide user safety by preventing catfishers.

In other words, Tinder SMS Verification is meant to verify you as a user, keep your account private, and make sure your account is safe.

In a world of catfishers, romance scammers, and fake profiles this is a very important and useful safety measure, to do a profile verification.

Choosing to log in on Tinder through any option (be it phone number, email, or other) will prompt Tinder to send you a verification SMS code via text at the phone number you provided.

That is to prevent Tinder’s users from creating duplicate accounts or sharing an account with other people.

Also, the Tinder SMS verification code is not permanent. It keeps on changing every time you log in, especially from a different device or after a long time since your last login.

What number does Tinder text verification codes from?

Sinch Verify

The codes that companies (including dating apps like Tinder) use to send verification codes – 2FA codes – to their users are called short codes. This is the ‘phone number’ that the company uses to send you a text.

Tinder’s short codes are not officially mentioned nor published. Therefore Tinder can send you your SMS code via different short codes.

Though it’s worth mentioning that a lot of companies use the same short codes.

MatchGroup for example owns a lot of dating sites and apps, therefore the same short code can be used by Tinder, POF, Hinge, OKC, and the like.

That being said, there is no list of Tinder short codes, but there is ‘Sinch’. This is a name under which Tinder (and other dating apps, e.g. Hinge) send SMS codes.

It often gets misunderstood for a scam text, however Sinch is a service Tinder uses to send SMS codes to their users.

Is it possible to bypass Tinder SMS verification? What are the alternatives?

Is it possible to bypass Tinder SMS verification

I’ve said it before, the SMS verification process on Tinder is inescapable. However, there are ways to go around it.

To clarify, going around it means not using your personal phone number.

The most direct way to bypass the Tinder SMS verification is to use a virtual number like Tinderophone (a service that provides phone numbers for Tinder users).

  • Go to Tinderophone to purchase and select a phone number.
  • Copy and paste the verification code you receive via your virtual phone number.
  • Use Tinder like everyone else!

The good thing about Tinderophone is that it’s designed solely for this purpose: to meet Tinder’s requirements for a phone verification.

Plus, with a price for one you will get two phone numbers and a guide that covers everything about Tinder and the issues you might experience (a ban, for example).

Important note:

Several texting apps give you random virtual phone numbers to receive SMS and calls.

Tinder is very aware of these providers and strict about them. This is why you want to avoid using public numbers from Google Voice or similar services to it.

Avoid using public phone services such as Google Voice because they provide used phone numbers that can get you banned before you even enter Tinder.

The more reliable options are using a friend’s phone number and using a burner number that’s designed for bypassing the Tinder SMS verification.

Tinder is not sending an SMS code to complete verification?

You might not receive the Tinder SMS verification for a variety of reasons.

Here’s what could be the case:

– You didn’t enter your phone number correctly (i.e. you didn’t write all the digits correctly).
Check your number and see if you missed or added any digit.

– Your Tinder app isn’t updated.

You need the latest version of Tinder for the app to work properly in every case. If the app isn’t updated it may become glitchy and not send you the SMS code.

– Your Phone Carrier is not supported on Tinder.

Your phone carrier is your mobile service provider (it’s where you get your SIM card from).

If Tinder notifies you that your phone carrier is not supported, what they mean is that your mobile service provider isn’t supported.

This could be because Tinder policy doesn’t support all carriers registering.

The best thing you can do is get an online disposable number that has carriers supported by Tinder.

– There could be a delay by Tinder while trying to reach your phone.

Sometimes Tinder servers are overloaded and they’re down because of that.

Tinder advises that you wait for a few minutes before giving up or before trying again numerous times.

You just have to wait for a while, and see if this is the case. If it is so, you’ll be able to get back in a matter of minutes or, in the worst case, hours.

– Your mobile/internet network could be slow.

This is also one of the reasons you might also see an error called Tinder Error 5 000.

You can try restarting your WIFI router or move to a different room in your house to get a stronger internet connection.

– Your mobile service carrier might’ve banned your phone number.

The contract may have expired, you didn’t pay the bills on time, or other reasons can lead you to have issues with your phone number.

It can cause you to not receive any SMS or phone call. To find out whether the issue is there, try asking help from your mobile service provider.

– Your message inbox (storage) is full.

Delete some old messages to make space in your inbox because that could be another reason why Tinder can't send you the code.

Getting the “Oops! Too many attempts” on Tinder.

to-many-attempts-tinder

Besides not receiving a Tinder SMS verification code when attempting to submit your phone number too many times, you might receive a notification as well!

“Oops! Too many attempts. Try again later.” can be the notification you receive when you enter and reenter your phone number on Tinder too many times.

On the other hand, your phone number could also not be accepted by Tinder, and you might need a different phone number to solve this issue.

If you receive the “Oops! Too many attempts.” on Tinder then you can try to:

  • Wait for 24 hours or more to try again;
  • Update Tinder (by installing and reinstalling Tinder, for example);
  • Use a different phone number or device.

Best of luck,

Liam
